Text Messaging...

Definition:

Text messaging, or texting, refers to the exchange of brief written text messages between fixed-line phone or mobile phone and fixed or portable devices over a network.

Texting sending messages or text messaging. The service allows for short text messages to be sent from one cell phone to another, from web to cellphones.

History:

In the early 1990s, people began to spend more and more time on the Internet. Creative software developers designed chat-room software

Instant messaging really exploded on the Internet scene in November 1996. That's when Mirabilis introduced ICQ, a free instant-messaging utility that anyone could use. ICQ, shorthand for "I seek you," uses a software application, called a client, that resides on your computer. The client communicates with an ICQ server whenever you are online and the client is running.

In 1997, AOL, considered the pioneer of the online community, gave its users the ability to talk in real time with each other through chat rooms and instant messages. In June 1998, AOL acquired Mirabilis and ICQ.

The ICQ model is the basis for most instant-messaging utilities on the market today. In the next section we'll examine how these services work.

How to text while in class?

  • Wearing a baggy sweatshirt with a front pocket helps. It makes it easy to blind text without ever taking the phone out of your pocket.
  • Putting a phone in your front pocket is a lot faster than trying to put it into your pants pocket while sitting down.
  • Get someone to sit in front of you to hide your phone but don't do this to obviously.
  • Ask to go to the bathroom if you are too afraid to text in class.
  • Get a pass code on your phone that way if they catch you they will not be able to access your messages.
  • Get fast with the texting and know how to text without looking at the screen.
  • Keep your cell phone really close to the bottom of your desk.
  • Text in your purse if you have one.
